Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920) was an Italian artist best known for his portraits and nudes. Born in Livorno, Modigliani studied art in Paris, where he was influenced by avant-garde culture and modern art movements. His portraits are characterized by simplified lines and a reduced aesthetic, which can be understood as a modern interpretation of classical figure painting.

Modigliani was also part of the "École de Paris," a group of international artists who lived and worked in Paris in the early 20th century. These artists often moved between different styles, creating works that combined various currents of modernism. Modigliani himself is frequently associated with Expressionism and modern art: his paintings show strong influences of Fauvism and Cubism, but are also characterized by a distinctive style of his own.
